A simple life on the Chesapeake Bay

Front
On this stormy day, things are still looking bright and sunny for the Coastal Living House. All flooring in the house is complete and looking spectacular! The outdoor fire place, which is my favorite part of the Coastal living site is done and ready for its 1stBBQ get together. Late night s’mores anyone?

As I walked through the house earlier this morning I couldn’t help but notice all the detail in  the ceilings all quite unique, defiantly takes the rooms up a notch.

Today the exterior shutters are being delivered, one of the final touches to the outside of the house and this week counter tops will start to be installed.

Happy Flag Day! As we celebrate the adoption of United States Flag today, we at East Beach are also celebrating the marvel of watching the 2011 Coastal Living House construct and we are amazed how fast & efficient everything is progressing. July 29th is the official opening day of the Coastal Living house and its right around the corner! Most of the exterior painting is nearly complete & all of the interior painting is fully done and looking spectacular. The prefinished hardwood flooring on the 1st floor will be installed this week, the brick fireplace at the south patio will be completed at the end of the week & the Ceramic tiles in all bathrooms have been installed. We defiantly think that’s something to celebrate on this grand ol’ day.

Deck Pets are inside & people are cranking up their air conditioning due to the hot 90 degree weather Norfolk is enduring. It’s not just the weather that’s cranking up the heat; the builders of the 2011 Coastal Living House are on fire! Seems like everything is coming up to the final touches, light fixtures, cabinets, tile, and railings are all installed and looking beyond fabulous.Lamp4

The gorgeous hardwood floors are being put down in a few days and the AZEK decking is almost complete. On the outside, the tree hedging, fence and Belgard Pavers are just about finished too. Looks like turning up the heat in this case is a good thing that deserves a glass of cold lemonade.

We are in week 9 of building the famous Ultimate Beach House & we’re here again giving you the skinny on what’s going on. This week the house gets its custom made Bolection doors installed. Bolection is a specialty door company that has over  17,000 designs to choose from, plus the choice to have them create your ideal door; now that’s a lot of choice! Builders have completed installing the pine wood plank flooring on the second floor & the interior wood trim has been primed. Bathroom tiles and kitchen cabinets are getting put in this week and the exterior decking is nearly complete.

As you can see the builders have been busy working away completing the metal roofing, interior wood trim and nearing the completion of the Azek deck. This week interior doors are being installed and the ceramic tiling is getting started, along with the hustle and bustle of meetings in & out of the East Beach Office about cabinet colors, and décor. It’s all very exciting to see and hear everyone’s ideas and thoughts! 4 3

It’s going to be a gorgeous week here at East Beach, well up until this weekend’s thunderstorms  but don’t let that get you down, enjoy looking outside your office window at that warm sunshine. (If you don’t have a window in your office or are still living in the cold we suggest buying a sunlamp and plugging into your imagination.) This week is similar to last week- the siding work is continuing on the exterior.  Most of the Hardee lap siding is in place, and the shingle work is progressing.  In the inside, the trim carpenters are about halfway finished- the bead board ceilings are in place in the great room, and most of the wainscoting is in place.

The devastating storms that swept across 7 states last week touched down hardest in Virginia in Washington County 4 hours north west of Norfolk. Fortunately these brutal storms did not do any damage to the site or the house, but we did get some 30-40 mile per hour winds and driving rain for about an hour. This week we are back to beautiful 82 degree weather.

The theme for this week is trim, trim trim!

The exterior trim and Hardie siding are nearing completion on the north side of the house facing the Bay.  The carpenters have been busy all week on the interiors, installing the base and crown moldings. This week, were expecting the Bolection interior doors.  We hear they are beautiful!

Outside
Is it summer already? Get out the beach towels and sun block! Norfolk hit a high of 90 degrees over Easter weekend and it will continue to stay nice and toasty throughout the week. And as summer gets closer, the Coastal Living House is getting even more close to being finished with each & every day.

Work
The Fabral metal roofing is about halfway finished, and the Hardie siding has been started.  The Marvin exterior doors are complete & the interior drywall is 75% done. The installation of the interior door frames will begin late this week.  With the drywall up & the house coming together smoothly,  the genius of the very efficient floor plan is really becoming apparent.

Construction is moving smoothly throughout the Coastal Living House. Side

Last week the Fabral metal roofing was delivered on site and will be put up this week. All of the Marvin windows are set into place and through much delicate planning the landscape plans have been approved!

The landscaping like the house will be beautifully done, it will feature a deck & pergola that faces the Chesapeake Bay that will be shaded by Sunbrella fabric. The private courtyard on the south side of the house features a 2 level deck system made up of Azek decking and Belgard pavers, an outdoor kitchen for entertaining and an outdoor shower, perfect for rinsing off after a day at the beach.

And as sneak preview teaser for you blog readers, we will have a row of trees that create an “aerial hedge”. More details on that soon!RoofingDeck

pollen, pollen everywhere

ahhchoo!

If you havent seen all the glorious yellow powder that has been gracing your car maybe your eyes sting too much to open them or are too watery from all the allergies this little itty bitty stuff called pollen is causing.

Virginia’s highest pollen period ranges from late March to May.

If your waiting to wash your car like most people, think twice. Think about every time you touch your car maybe rub your eye or eat a hamburger on the go, your pretty just making your allergies flare up.

Pollen can trigger asthma or on going respiratory problems for kids and sensitive folks.

Were all ready for summer, but the hot weather brings the pollen to its worst, so pray for cool nights and practice your rain dance.

You can also take precautions to prevent getting bad allergies like vacuuming, dusting & washing your hair and clothes everyday. But if your too busy like the majority of us go to your local pharmacy and pick up some good allergy meds like Allegra or Claritin and stay inside on high pollen count days if your sensitive, no point in being miserable.
